Anxiously waiting showtime, Heritage Middle School Choir members prepared for weeks for the concert. The voices blended very well together despite the fact that the two choirs had never performed as one. The IHS choir members had their first concert this year with the Heritage Middle School choir at Thompson Station Church Monday evening.

Jaime Hawkins, IHS choir director, says he is excited to be working with Lisa Benton, the HMS director. It was “a wild night, blending all the sounds, but [this concert] helps bring new students in the upcoming years to high school choir.”

Each group performed two to three songs and then there was a joint section with both high school and middle school choirs with “Prayer of the Children.”

The very last song of the concert is usually the most memorable so Benton and Hawkins chose to have the choirs sing “Awakening,” in which “the composer has a nightmare that the world is void of music and then they wake up and claim that they will ‘let music live’ through them and through [the choirs,]” says Benton. Music is meant to be shared so to have it live on in younger generations from the middle school choir really helps it stay alive.
