Despite early struggles by the team, Independence’s student section leaders aren’t deterred, and they look forward to an engaging season cheering on the Eagles.

The Independence Football team itself isn’t the only thing opposing squads have come to fear these past few years. The Student section has made a name for itself with its eardrum-shattering chants and ridiculous attendance rate. There aren’t too many places more rattling than an Independence home game, which has been made more evident than ever in recent history.

Andrew Hendry, Indy’s student section leader, was excited to be given the pads, yet he recognizes the responsibility that comes with it. “There’s some big shoes to fill,” Hendry says referring to Indy’s past section leaders. When asked how he felt about the Section’s performance thus far, he said it’s the best it can be, given the circumstances of recent outcomes.

Hendry urges everyone to continue to actively participate and to keep getting “rowdy” every Friday night.

Drew Bittman, a flag runner, specifically points to one game as to what he is most excited for this season. “The Franklin Game is going to be wild,” Bittman proclaims, “American out. Bittman explains that former Eagle, and current Franklin player, Carter Hendry, playing on an Independence field one last time, what’s not to love?”

Clearly, there is a lot more in store for the Eagles and their fans this season. Oh, and by the way, Independence started off 0-2 in 2007 when we first went to the state championship. Just saying.
